Wildcraft is an outdoor gear manufacturing company headquartered in Bangalore, India. The company products are sold in over 200 plus exclusive stores and 4000 plus multi-branded stores in India and Abroad. The founder of the company is Dinesh K.S and the Co-founder of the company are Siddharth Sood and Gaurav Dublish. The wildcraft incorporated in 1998, Wildcraft India Pvt. Ltd. (WIPL) is India’s foremost company in the manufacturing and distribution of head-to-toe products for trek-to-travel solutions and also it’s India’s leading outdoor gear manufacturer and distributor of all products required for adventure and trekking.
Wildcraft was started in the late 1990s by Dinesh K.S. He is an Engineer and outdoor enthusiast person, wildcraft was born out of a need to manufacture reliable and great quality outdoor gear and equipment in India. This story goes that during one of those outdoor excursions, Dinesh met with an accident due to low-quality equipment. It was after this incident that the idea of Wildcraft was born. Dinesh K.S having an interest in reading books on exploratory trips by some explorers of the last century. The story he reads all about exploratory trips and climbing trips in the Himalayas and he is a very enthusiastic person to experience some things himself. In 1982, he went to Nepal and felt the energy and vibration there in the district called Thamel, where people hang out and there are lots of adventure goods retail stores. He has got some kind of idea of being outdoors and exploring nature. After a few years, they found people who were doing just that around Bangalore and he went out with them. Dinesh realized why not manufactured such type of outdoor gears for wanderlust people.
In 1993 they came together and handle everything from designing to sourcing to teaching people how to stage the factory and coming back to the place in the evening and he’ll sell the products from the small outlet that they had. The garage from the outside looks like a doctor’s clinic, 7-8 people team worked together in the garage, all work was done by Dinesh and His team. In 2008 Gaurav Dublish and Siddharth Sood joined wildcraft before that, they passed out of business school in 2000. It was a part-time job for both of them at that time they had separate corporate careers of their own. In 2007, they decided to take this passion in the massive empire or (convert it into an industry).
Wildcraft Challenge or Risks-
The wildcraft faced the challenge right from the beginning, was initially challenged after people came together and people placed in the garage. The basic need for raw material was not available here in India and whatever is available does not meet the wildcraft criteria or standard. They also try to import the raw material from China but the factories that they want to work with didn’t want to work with them because the order quantity was too small and those factories that wanted to work with them, but those factories did not achieve the quality standards. After that incident wildcraft decided to do their manufacturing outdoors and explore in the best possible way. Wildcraft right from the beginning, their team taking out the prototype and using it is throughout. All products go through the Same quality checks process. What has been produced contains good quality and it has to pass through Dinesh K.S.
Wildcraft Product and Business-
Wildcraft has acquired a huge market with an extended geographical footprint of 200 plus exclusive brand stores in the 60 plus cities with 5000 plus retail stores all over India. This also includes over 1000 point-of-sales across the departmental stores and Hypermarket ( grocery supermarket). Wildcraft manufacturing the quality of the goods, outdoor gear, clothing ergonomically ( biotechnology) designed gears, all-terrain footwear, all-purpose travel case, like rucksacks, backpack, messenger bags, etc. Now in covid19 pandemic also provide essential gears like a super mask, Hazmat suits. Wildcraft has one mission: versatile, multi-functional, lightweight, weather resilient, more weight capacity, products for the backpacker, or outdoor explorer enthusiasts people.
Wildcraft Investment and Profitability-
Earlier, wildcraft was started as a hobby With a limited commercial focus from 2008. It has pursued strategic growth and increased revenue. According to the publication, the company grew at a compound annual growth rate of 75 % from 2008 to 2012 and continued to grow annually at 50% until 2019. Now pursuing a 25% revenue CAGR (compound annual growth rate).In September 2013, sequoia capital was a California-based private equity firm, invested ₹ 70 core in wildcraft, giving it an enterprise valuation of about US $ 500 million. Wildcraft retail sales of ₹400 Cr In FY 2017, and is looking at a total distribution of ₹350 Cr, It’s achieved a revenue run rate of ₹ 1000 Cr at the end of 2020.
Wildcraft Future Goal-
The future Goal of wildlife is to reduce the material that they consume while manufacturing the outdoor gear and clothing because more impact it on the planet. The products meet the customer criteria and the way they have redefined what the outdoors means for the Indian customer. Also, increase the retail point of sale across India.
